October 2008: GB Temp helps launch Gloucester Shopwatch
Carla Wales came to GB Solutions looking for a new position. After meeting with the GB Temporary Solutions team she soon found herself in a 3 month contract working in the retail business sector as a Project Co-ordinator. Her role was to oversee a project to enhance partnership working, aimed at reducing opportunities for crime and anti-social behaviour in and around commercial premises. Initially the contract was for 3 months, but due to her continuous effort and good work Carla’s contract was soon extended to 6 months.
Carla introduced and promoted the Shopwatch scheme to improve security measures throughout Gloucester. The group abide by a clearly defined aim and constitution, set of disciplinary rules, membership requirements and most importantly the Police protocols. This will enable all retailers in the city to join, in order to work together in partnership to reduce crime, disorder and anti social behaviour in preventing theft or any other unacceptable behaviour. By liaising with the Chairperson to organise a centralised computer all retailers will be able to view crime information as well as offenders photographs.
Throughout its development the Shopwatch scheme, as with any new proposal, encountered various ups and downs however, due to consistent extensions to Carla’s contract she was able to liaise with retailers to implement the system and ensure that the protocols were passed by the police solicitor. By encouraging retailers to talk to member stores and work together they could ensure knowledge retention and therefore achieve the best possible outcome.
Attending the launch of Shopwatch Carla said “I have really enjoyed my time with the company and I will be really sad to leave. The interaction with the retailers and the Police has been fantastic and I've met some great people along the way. I've never worked within project management but I can honestly say that I am considering this as a career and I have GB Solutions to thank for that”.
